Witness: Lord Farquad (Emily T)

Lawyer: Please state your name.

Witness: My name is Lord Farquad of Yorkshire, England.

Lawyer: Are you for or against King John?

Witness: I am against King John.

Lawyer: Why, may I ask, are you against King John?

Witness: King John has been unfair to the people of England. He abuses his power as King of England and shouldn’t be a king.

Lawyer: Do you think the King followed any of the things he agreed to when he signed the Magna Carta?

Witness: We wrote the Magna Carta because we wanted more rights. King John signed the Magna Carta saying he would grant us these rights and follow the rules. King John has not followed many of the rules though. Just because King John is the King doesn’t mean he shouldn’t follow all of the rules too.

Lawyer: What are some of the rules that you think King John hasn’t followed?

Witness: King John has still been taxing us even after he signed the Magna Carta and said he wouldn’t make us pay so much.

Lawyer: How do you feel about the taxes King John is making you pay?

Witness: I think that the taxes King John is making us pay is unfair and unreasonable. I don’t understand how he can expect us to pay so much if we are all given so little. Even to us lords and barons, the taxes he makes us pay are too much.

Lawyer: Do you think King John has lived up to the legacy of his brother, King Richard?

Witness: Absolutely not. King Richard was a fair King. He was loyal to all of his people and a great ruler for England. King John is a terrible king. He was ignorant for signing the Magna Carta and giving up his power, then taking it back and disobeying his agreement. He has been a disgrace to the legacy of his brother.

Lawyer: In the past, has the king ever done anything to help you?

Witness: The king has always been unfair to me and to everyone. He has never done anything to help me or anyone else in this kingdom.

Lawyer: Do you think that King John should be allowed to live above the law?

Witness: No. Rules are rules and are meant for everyone to follow, even kings.

Lawyer: Do you think that the king deserves another chance as a king?

Witness: King John has been unfair to all of us. He has abused his powers and disrespected all of us. I don’t think King John should deserve to be the king again.
